New community café to end loneliness

A local campaign group that is aiming to end loneliness in the community is raising money in order to open a new community café.

Bristol Community Friendship Club (BCFC) has launched a new Facebook selling site called BS5 Bargain Buys in order to raise money for the café.

Gillian Flower, founder of BCFC, explained that the community café is an evolution of a community-run wellbeing centre that she envisioned during an interview with the St George & Redfield Voice back in January.

“I realised that I needed to give people a reason to come into our building. So our building has now turned into a café,” explained Gillian.

“My vision is for the café to be bought by the community for the community with love support and friendship at the top of the menu!”

She explained that a community café was good way that people could turn up and enjoy a coffee and a cake with others, without having to worry about being labelled as lonely.

“What I need now is for the public to give me donations to sell on my new Facebook selling site or to sell at car boots sales,” explained Gillian.

“I have raised £8,000 so far!”

Bristol Community Friendship Club aims to end loneliness in the community by extending the hand of friendship to those that feel isolated.
