Hit-and-run driver leaves injured man lying in Church Road after shop theft

POLICE are trying to trace a hit-and-run driver who left a man injured in the main road through St George.

The incident on Church Road last night is being linked to a theft at the Co-op store in the road.

An Avon and Somerset police spokesperson said: "Shortly after 9.30pm last night we were called to Church Road, Bristol after a report of a collision between a car and a man in which the vehicle failed to stop.

"The man, aged in his 20s, suffered an arm injury and is currently in hospital receiving treatment. As part of our inquiry into the incident we’re investigating a report of a theft from a nearby shop. The road is currently closed while specialist officers examine the scene.

"Enquiries into the incident, including tracing and locating the driver of the vehicle, are ongoing."

Church Road was closed for more than 12 hours after the incident as investigators examined the scene of the incident.

Traffic, including bus services which use the A420 to link the city centre with Kingswood and Hanham, was diverted
